The 60s started, funnily enough, at the end of the 50s - and we think the diversity of the genre is reflected well on our online sixties radio station as we try to include the early 60's pioneers, like the Everly Brothers and Elvis and Cliff
Richard.

Then, from 1963, the music we celebrate most - the Brits really hit home with the 'British Invasion' all over the world - and especially in the US with the outbreak of The Beatles. They really opened the floodgates for a variety of British acts to storm the charts, dominated by the 'Merseybeat' sound, which The Beatles certainly started, and were followed by such bands as The Searchers, Gerry and The Pacemakers, Freddie And The Dreamers, Wayne Fontana And The MindBenders, The Four Pennies, Cilla Black and so on. You can listen to them all over again - and their US contempories - on our 60s internet radio station, dedicated ENTIRELY to the 60's - KFM 60s. We also focus on the 70s and 80s on our other KeepFreeMusic.com stations!

In the mid-60s, the British artists continued to dominate the charts all over the world, though The Beach Boys gave them a good run for their money in the singles and albums charts.

Towards the end of the 60's, the psychedelic music started to become popular, characterized by 60s music such as 'Status Quo - Pictures Of Matchstick Men', nearly all the contents on 'Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band', The Flowerpot Men's 'Lets Go To San Francisco', The Move's 'I Can Hear The Grass Grow'.
